Metallography is a Non Destructive Examination of metallic materials whereby an acetate film wetted with acetone is placed on a metallographic prepared surface to imprint (negative relief) the material's micro structure.
The micro structure imprinted on the film is therefore examined with an optical/ scanning electron microscope (SEM) for important metallographic features (Grain size, phases, inhomogeneity, discontinuities, etc.).
The field prepared replica metallography should be comparable to a laboratory prepared samples metallography.
We perform the test in accordance to the following standards:
- ASTM E 1351: Standard practice for Production and Evaluation of Field Metallographic Replicas
- ISO 3057: Non Destructive Testing- Metallographic Replica Technique of Surface Examination.
